Verbs (werkwoorden) can generally be defined as a word type that expresses an action, event or condition. The verb forms together with the subject and possibly one or more objects the base for a sentence. An example of a verb is: ik loop.

You can recognize verbs in different ways. Verbs consist of things that happen, things that you can do and something you are. 

if you change the sentence to the past tense, the verbs also change to their past tense.

The verbs hebben, zijn and worden are used to explain what you are.
